    There has been a vibrant professional music community in Second Life for several years. On Music Island in 2007 we live streamed a full symphony concert with 25 avatars with scripted instruments on stage using volunteers, a budget that amounted to pocket change and one laptop plugged into the concert hall sound system. Broadcast rights was our major expense. We have had composers improvising to the audience's words streamed via collaborative writing software into virtual reality; live scripting of particle art in reaction to music; avatars exploring new music and photography in a whirling tea cup; a trio of sculpture and music events. . . the possibilities are endless and exciting. Clearly more connections are needed between the academic musical community that appears to be just discovering SL for the most part and the SL musical community that has been developing best practices and doing a lot with very little for some time.
